Jewy: A made-up word | Hui: 'Ōlelo Hawai'i meaning "to join or unite"
Jewy Hui welcomes anyone who identifies as Jewish into our group, to include the following:
Born Jewish (Jewish mother or father) or raised in a Jewish home
Jews by choice (in the process of converting or has converted)
Seriously exploring Judaism
Someone who is not Jewish but is dating/married to someone who is
Has Jewish heritage and wants to explore it further
Any Jewish religious observance level
Identify as Jewish (as defined above); and
Live on O’ahu (or reside here most of the year); and
Are between 22 and 40, or dating/married to someone who is; and
Are not currently in undergrad (unless you are not a traditional age student)
Are a parent (but please leave your keiki/kinderlach at home unless explicitly stated otherwise)
We are driven by kindness, friendship, and hospitality. We come from different backgrounds, creeds, life experiences, and levels of religious observance; but we are united in our desire to create a welcoming and inclusive Jewish community for young professionals living on O’ahu.
We encourage an exchange of ideas and open discourse. We recognize that we all come from diverse backgrounds and have different perspectives, but it is important to listen to one another with respect and to be open to new ideas so we can all grow and build a stronger ’ohana/mishpacha.
We treat everyone inside and outside our group with aloha and kavod/respect. As Jews, we intimately know the dangers of antisemitism and bigotry. Accordingly, we have zero tolerance for racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia, or discrimination in any form.
Anyone not contributing to a safe and welcoming environment may either be asked to change their behavior by the Board or be disinvited from participation in events and membership.
